“Great sound and playability”

“I’d previously used a non tuneable 12 bodhran made by a well known brand. Some would describe it as a souvenir, Celtic design on the skin ect. However I found it acceptable as I usually play for my own enjoyment or occasionally busking with a friend on guitar. While surfing the web I came across McNeela’s site and was quite impressed with the site and their story. Living in Australia it becomes quite restrictive buying from overseas due to postage, scams ect. Anyway, I bit the bullet and ordered the 14inch non tuneable bodhran. I was, firstly, amazed at how prompt the delivery was. It seemed to arrive in no time at all. Also was very well packed and arrived in great condition. Even while unwrapping I realised that I’d purchased an actual musical instrument. The fine workmanship and finish was apparent straight away. This item was described as a good piece for beginners. I disagree. From the first beat(beater and bag included) I was blown away with the quality of the tone, amazing! The t bar design and arm cut out on the frame make it more comfortable while playing. The tapering on the skin is also professionally done. I don’t know what else to say. I could’ve bought the tuneable version but, I couldn’t really justify the expense. A big well done to McNeela music as well as the emails they send which encourages me to play along with actual musicians.”

“I'm a beginner, so I chose the 14" non-tunable bodhran. I love the drum and the fact that it came with a case. The service was excellent. I was surprised and pleased how quickly the order was processed and the drum made its way from Ireland to Arizona. I especially enjoy and appreciate the follow-up emails with tips on playing and practicing, and the history of the instrument and Celtic music.”

“Shipping was swift and drum arrived safe and sound, despite traveling through intense winter storms. It is all that I wanted and more. Really sturdy, yet not heavy, and so well made, able to handle the enthusiasm of a twelve year old. Perfect size for a crowded pub session, tucks neatly under my arm if I am sitting and doesn’t intrude upon the singers, but enhances their lilt (I like to think anyway). Yet it’s voice is strong! This can be a very loud drum, certainly holds it own even with pipers in the session. A giant of a small drum, it’s name is now McCool.”
