Aside from the aesthetical differences, F-hole mandolins will usually have a brighter shimmery tone with more volume and a sharper attack in comparison to their oval hole counterparts. As a result, F-hole mandolins tend to offer a more percussive sound. However, the higher the craftsmanship is, the less differences in sound quality are.
