This high quality print is based on a watercolour on paper of Tulipa identified as 'La Christophine' attributed to the artist August Wilhelm Sievert from an album of bound watercolours and drawings titled 'Hortus florum imaginum' dating from c.1730. Wilhelm Sievert was active in the 1720s-1740sand additional_info is not null; from 1727 he was the botanical artist and Inspector of gardens to Karl Wilhelm, Markgraf von Baden-Durlach, Germany. Eleven of the drawings in this folio are also reproduced c 1760-80's as hand-coloured engravings in C J Trew's book 'Hortus Nitidissimus'.
