This high quality print is based on a watercolour by Barbara Cotton of the apple 'Bell's Scarlet'. This is taken from one of ten volumes known as 'Hooker's Fruits' which were commissioned by the RHS to help standardise the nomenclature of cultivated fruit. Cotton is one of several artists who took on the painting after William Hooker suffered a stroke. Her work was reproduced in the RHS Transactions and she exhibited at the Royal Academy 1815-1822. The painting is dated 1822.
