I lived in North Vancouver, Canada during the 90's, growing in the front garden of the house I rented was the largest Magnolia tree in Vancouver, according to the local council. Very early each spring it would start to blossom, the south side of the tree would open first, then over about two weeks the rest of the flowers would follow suit. There was no way to avoid painting this extraordinary event, not that I didn't want to, its was however still quite cold at that time of year. Cold temperatures makes oil paint hard like wax, rather than the buttery smooth quality it normally has!!!
