Mark Rothko Untitled (Blue, Yellow, Green, Red) Abstract Expressionism Reviews

5 Rating 4 Reviews
Read King & McGaw Reviews

In 1947 Rothko began to paint a collection of purely abstract works that would establish the artist as one of the biggest names in 20th century art. The works, dubbed multiforms by critics, show large blocks of soft edged rectangles merging. Generally composed of two or three contrasting yet complementary colours the works are designed to overwhelm the viewer, expressing feelings of intense emotion. For Rothko the purpose of art was not to display an experience but rather be an experience in itself, and it is in these works that the artist's philosophy is best displayed. This print is an excellent example of the style of painting with which the artist would become synonymous.

I am extraordinarily pleased with the framed print that I purchased. It was a present to my wife who had expressed a liking for the work of Mark Rothko, an opinion with which I concur. It is a pleasingly thought provoking image that enhances its surroundings. My thanks to King & McGaw for their excellent service.
