The only complaint within a spotless bike would be the brake handles are quite stiff and far from the handlebars do smaller handed/younger children may struggle to reach them but kids grow at such a rate if you really want the best bike i would thoroughly recommend this bike!

Hi Trevor, Thanks for taking the time to review the Rookie 14 and we are delighted you all like it. Regarding brake reach and tension, the good news is, it’s all fully adjustable. If you check out this page, it will show you what to do to make them easier to pull and closer, to dial it in for your child. Any problems, just drop us an email. https://kidvelobikes.co.uk/how-to-adjust-a-kidvelo-balance-or-pedal-bike/ . Best Wishes, Karen.

My son started with the rookie 12 when he was just 11 months old and now progressed to the rookie 14 balance bike ready for the pedals to go on at age 2. Absolutely love kidvelo bikes, amazing design, so light in weight and my son loves the bold bright colours. Highly recommend to any parent/ rider. Smashing it again kidvelo!!

My 3 year old very specifically said he wanted a 'red bike like Elliott from E.T' He was previously used to the Strider Sport balance bike which was very light and easy for him to use. He's not quite ready for pedals so the Rookie 14 seemed the perfect in-between bike, so that when he's ready we can add the pedals. It also has brakes so he can get used to using them before the pedals are attached. It's lightweight and very striking to look at. My son was over the moon with it!

Excellent. I cannot find fault with any part of this bike. We knew our little girl was ready for pedals so this was just what we needed. Easy to install the pedal kit. We went straight to pedals and skipped balance. The little brake levers are just the right size and short enough on the pull. She's already pedalling @flissy228 for instagram!

Great bike. Looks very cool and very kid friendly but not childish. The fact it can go from a balance bike to pedal bike is great for helping progression.

Bought this for my 3 year old sons birthday, the handle bars are slightly big but there’s room for growth and he has already got the hang of it very quickly. Brilliant start to his cycling life journey!

The Rookie 14 is a brilliant children’s bike. The build quality is excellent, it’s lightweight and it looks great. It’s also very well thought out for little riders and offers really good value for money compared to other high quality brands. We’ve used it exclusively as a pedal and it’s been great. The only issue we’ve had is that the handlebar grips come loose from time to time and we have to push them back on; other than that I couldn’t fault it, and I would definitely make the same choice again.

Hello, thank you for taking the time to review the bike. We are delighted that you love it as much as we do! The grips aren’t permanently bonded on, as you would need to replace the whole handlebar to replace them, if they get damaged, which would be unnecessarily expensive. However, if you spray a little hairspray onto the bar, before sliding them back on, then they will hold but still allow you the option to take off and replace if needed.
