I bought this with a view to replacing my Virgin Media service which is effectively running a Tivo service. Lets start with the FVP-4000T: The TV side works to an extent with the SD channels being found automatically. The HD channels however are still nowhere to be seen. Even after the exceedingly complex set of instructions sent from the customer support team. 35 lines of instructions to be carried out in order! The interface is exceedingly clunky. Given that it has the same screen real estate to work with as the Virgin box, the Text is massive, the buttons look as if they were drawn by a three year old and the menu structure is, lets face it, incredibly frustrating to operate. I can find the things I've recorded and it lets you record a series too which is good. But, there is nowhere on the system that shows me what series links I have set to record. Nowhere. I basically have to remember what I set to record so that I don't miss anything. The EPG is set to GIANT mode again, so looking for anything means you get hardly anything on the screen at one time, making it very difficult to use. It also only looks forward 7 days, so it's just tough if you want to record something next week. Again, you have to remember to go back in. The machine seems ok, but it's really let down by its software. Don't think this is a small thing, this is a big deal. The H3 companion box is small and cute. But, to be honest, it's even more difficult to use than the main box. The WiFi works ok, but the programs stutter and jump about. I have very good WiFi in the room with everything else working perfectly, but not this. I've had to plug in a cable, which has made things better, but still not great. It streams everything from the main box, so the signal needs to be good in both areas. As a companion to the main box, you would think that finding recordings would be simple. But no. There's no button on the home screen. Instead: 1. Load the Humax Media Player App from the main screen 2. Select DLNA 3. Nothing! 4. Go downstairs and turn the main box on again 5. Go back upstairs and now it appears - as an IP address 6. goto My Contents 7. goto Recordings 8. now we have TV shows - As individual files - I think in date order 9. select and play Slick it is not...

Very good piece of technology, menu a bit slow in responding but cannot fault it,records good quality and the H3 extension has been a god send crystal clear TV in the study now as the old aerial feed used to be very blocky at times.

FVP-4000T - good replacement for our Sky box. The only drawback, which I am struggling to understand, is the fact that you can't install the TVPlayer app on the Humax box. This is bad news for us as we watch most TV from the living room. H3 - quick and can make use of the recordings on the FVP box. However, the lack of iPlayer is frustrating. All in all, they are good devices but consistency is needed with the choice of apps.
