“This Schrade Pal is a small pocket knife, very similar to the classic Peanut pattern, as made by Case and many others; for example, Rough Rider. The Pal has a perfectly straight back spring, whereas a Peanut is slightly sway back. The top end bolsters are squarish on the Pal, smaller and rounded on a typical Peanut. Overall, the Peanut shape is like a slightly wavy raindrop. The Pal keeps to its own lineage; with a straighter frame, about 2mm longer in the handle than a Peanut. And, the blade of the Pal exceeds the Peanut design by some 5mm. So, although the Pal has one blade, and most Peanuts offer a secondary layer with a petite Pen pattern blade, there is a weight tradeoff. My Case Peanut weighs 38 grams, and the Pal is 27 grams as per my kitchen scales. Now then. This Schrade was included in the Sharpfinger fixed blade gift tin option. So I'm very pleased to also have the Pal along with a Schrade Sharpfinger, albeit of Chinese manufacture, not USA. Nevertheless, the whole package is a delight, and I'm happy. So why just 4 stars? Well, the Pal came with quite sharp corners on the nickel silver bolsters. Enough to need about 20 minutes or so work by hand with a suitable water stone, then buffing compound, again, by hand. Rough Rider, in my limited experience, would have seen to this before it left the factory. But! After a little fettling and tickling, the Pal is a different little critter entirely! So, yes, a lovely little pocket knife, fully UK friendly, nice and light, with a pleasing traditional pattern. For just a little worthwhile effort, a sweet and petite example of an everyday handy item! Thanks to HH, for a pleasant experience. And prompt delivery, of course. Cheers!”
