QSP Penguin Slip Joint Folding Knife Reviews

The QSP Penguin has been one of the most popular folders of recent times. It is a powerfully built knife with a wide, sheepsfoot blade capable of a wide variety of tasks. In previous incarnations the blade locks into place but this new model has a non-locking slip joint mechanism. This means that as the blade is under three inches long and not locking it is OK to carry within the UK. Due to its exceptional manufacturing and very sturdy back spine the blade snaps into the open and closed position with reassuring crispness! Plus there is a half stop which will help to prevent accidental closure.
The handle is made from G10 with attractive red liner on the black option and black liner on the white version. There is also a choice of blue or OD green G10. Accessorise your one with a lanyard and add a detachable thumb stud if you wish to enable one handed opening.
Now you can carry your favourite knife for all your daily chores!

Slightly bigger than the QSP Hedgehog with a flat grind, went for this as it has the finger choil cutout on the blade like Spyderco. The build quality is fantastic, back spring meeting blade when open is completely smooth, back spring and handle looks like one piece. Perfectly centred blade with a very robust open and close with half stop, I have no worries about this closing on me. This is heavier than my usual Spyderco UK knife but it feels so much more robust in the hand and its a steal at just under £50.

Another great UK friendly carry from QSP with an "out of the box" very sharp blade. Good fit and form, build quality is to a high standard, It's also at a good price. This is my second QSP as I previously purchased the Hedgehog Denim Micarta and again I'm happy with my choice. HH delivery and service is as ever great.

First knife bought on returning to knife collecting. Lovely blade shape and the knife is great quality. Great walk and talk, and strong action on opening and closing. Lovely and sharp too, and the green scales are nice and grippy.

Let's face it, the penguin has quickly become a surprise classic. I've had one of the original frame locks for a while and love it, just can't carry it. And at last they've brought out a slip joint version. Fit and finish is way above the price point, and ergonomics are better than the original. The long pull/ fuller is a far more aesthetically pleasing and functionally superior choice than the nail nick. 14c28n makes a nice change from the swathes of D2 you see at the moment, and I like this steel for edc. Walk and talk is superb, enough retention to be reassuring but not problematic. A crisp half stop and close. The knife reminds me of the ADV pocket butcher, but way cheaper. My only complaint is the lack of a pocket clip, but given the number of iterations the penguin has seen it's quite possible that QSP will be bringing this out in the future, and I'll get one of them too.
