What makes the Outdoor Element Scout Feather the best EDC knife and a must for camping, adventure, hunting, fishing, and survival? It's got to be that it is so much more than just a knife. Not only does it cut, it also sparks fire, sharpens in the field, and signals for help. A scout is prepared; a scout knows the environment and loves the outdoors. Confidence radiates from a scout. Welcome to the Scout Feather -- the ideal tool in the quiver of preparedness. This small and mighty blade cuts, sparks fire, sharpens, and signals.
That's four Elements of Adventure so you can Explore with Confidence!
CUT: Confidently cut with this small yet mighty blade. From camp kitchen to campfire, Scout is nimble enough to whittle, strong enough to baton. Scout Feather's drop point traditional profile and saber grind make this little fixed blade incredibly sharp and strong. With exceptional durability, Scout chops and cuts with ease. It takes a beating and retains a razor-sharp edge.
COMBUSTION: Throw generous sparks by striking the 90-degree spine against the hex-shaped, threaded ferrocerium rod integrated into the sheath.
SIGNAL: Be loud. Be found. A loud, 115b safety whistle is attached to the butt of the knife on a reflective mini lanyard strung through the hex driver.
SHARPEN: A sharp knife is a safe knife. Hone the blade while on the go using the ceramic honing V notch in the sheath.
DRIVE: Tighten or replace the threaded 1/4” hex ferro rod using the built-in driver. The sheath is fully threaded so the ferro rod can be inserted backward, providing additional purchase/grip in holding the sheath and striking the knife's spine against the ferro rod.
CARRY OPTIONS: Multiple carry options make Scout Feather secure and accessible. The form-fitted, secure-lock sheath features a heavy-duty belt clip, specifically designed to fit 3/4" webbing (common size on sternum straps on backpacks). Secure it to your chest strap, belt, or pocket.

“Really nice useful fixed blade knife. Ideal 2.65-inch blade, sharp out of the box. The size and shape make it good for many tasks. The blade spine has aggressive jimping which gives a great thumb purchase. further along the spine there's a sharp 90 degree spine. This is both for scraping a ferro rod and for scraping sticks to make a powder-bed to catch sparks. This works brilliantly with fat wood. The handle shape contours to my hand giving a solid grip. The knife is VG-10 stainless steel, full tang. I understand that there is a carbon component to this steel, which enables it to throw a lot of sparks from any ferro-rod. This was very 'sparky' when I used it on an old ferro rod. Very impressive. At the end of the knife is a lanyard hole. Now this bit is really well thought through. Rather than a circular hole, it's hexagonal and can be used with any hex bits. (for safety, with the sheath over the blade) The handle scales are removable with a T8 Torx bit. Outdoor Element have produced Glow in the dark 'WISE OWL GLOW' Replacement scales. Finally, on the knife itself, there is a tiny whistle on a cord, which is looped through the hex hole. Yes it is high-pitched and loud. The sheath has two holes at the end, which when attached to 550 cord or a strap, allows for neck carry. There is a belt / strap clip on the sheath and a smaller clip is also included in the box. The clip can be unscrewed, then rotated, to allow a few carry options. The sheath incorporates a 'V' ceramic sharpener, for touch-ups on the go. Also on the sheath is a hexagonal ferro-rod. You can use the hex hole on the knife {or a spanner or some pliers}, to unscrew the ferro rod, then screw it in on the other side, away from the sheath. This gives easier use when fire starting. Replacement rods also available from Outdoor Element. What I bought. A knife which incorporates, a ferro rod, hex drive, sharpener and a whistle. So in summary. This is a multi-function knife. A well thought clever design.”

“Not sure how they produce this for the money. Small but stout blade and great for food prep. Also great for lighting a meths stove. Sits in my brew kit for when I'm out with the dog all day and need to stop for lunch. Fiddly handle but it works, not sure about the claim that it can chop well, but it can be used to baton thin bits of kindling.”
