Fox Vulpis 1 Titanium 4.5 Penknife Folding Knife Reviews

4.6 Rating 8 Reviews
Read Heinnie Haynes Reviews

Welcome to the world of the Fox Vulpis. A small penknife in an array of variants each one with the quality materials not usually found in a knife of this size and usefulness. Made in the heart of Italian knife making, Maniago, Fox chose the superior M390 stainless steel for the blades and made them all non-locking thus making them legal to carry within the UK.
This version uses a lightweight and seriously strong Titanium handle and a stout little powerhouse of a Sheepsfoot blade measuring 4.5cm long. Pop one in your pocket, in a survival kit or in amongst your EDC and go about your day!

An excellent small knife for the keyring, very sharp out of the box, a quick strop made it even more impressive. M390 and titanium on on a knife this size makes it a no brainer. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is the use of rivets rather than screws and the narrowness of the part where the spilt ring goes, limiting the size/type you can actually use, but at this price bracket it's understandable I guess. It can actually be opened one handed with a little practise.

2.5 finger handle, bit of blade play. Gift voucher prompted me to splash out on this baby. Alox SD SAK probably more useful but this is attractive and sleek.

There is a reason so many of the keyring-appropriate Swias army knives have been sold over the decades: Form-factor. This little treasure from Fox is near as makes no odds identical in size to my old Swiss army keyfob, making swapping one for the other an easier decision.I bought this on an early morning impulse, thinking, "Cute!" and I'm so glad I did because it was out of stock by tea time (Which tells you something). It's hard to believe you can get an M390 blade and titanium handles and still have change from £35 but Fox accomplish this by keeing the design and construction to the very simplest. Two flat slabs sanwich the blade and a one piec backspring/lanyard ring. That's all there is.: four bits of metal and three rivets. If Fox haf screwed this knife together, it would probably become a firm favourite with the customizers out there. but (ho hum) they used rivets, probsbly to keek costs down. The knife though is useful and sharp (and being M390, should remain so in daily use) and loses only one point because the spring could be just a bit more positive in keeping the knife closed. If you close it gently, you can leave it a few millimeters open because the spring won't quite overcome the friction from the pivot without a little momentum to assist itt. It's not a deal-breaker though. The blade shape helps it's EDC credibility too, being rather 'unthreatening' looking compared to, say, my Lionsteel Jack (also UK legal but pointy). For the tasks it's suited to, this little knife is over-engineered but what of it? It's going to last long enough to be inherited..

Lovely little knife that will go beautifully on my keychain. The smooth sheepsfoot blade spine means there isn't a single sharp corner to snag on anything, and I particularly like the way the blade has a half-closed position. Titanium handle means the whole thing is featherlight, which is another plus on a keychain-sized knife. I ordered mine on Monday morning and it arrived Tuesday lunchtime - cracking service from HH!
