“My dog suffers from reoccurring pleural effusion. She has had many test to try an find the cause but we still don't know what is causing it. The vets main suspicion is that she may suffer from mesothelioma. It can be hard to diagnosis. Her general health is still good at the moment. So she has had a pleural port fitted so that I can manage the drainage of the pleural fluid at home without having to take her into the vet and having her sedated. It was suggested by the vet to put her on diuretic medication to slow down the accumulation of fluid but the medication would have been very hard on her kidneys. It has reduced the amount of pleural fluid by about a quarter. Before starting her on it I was having to drain her pleural fluid twice a week now she can go maybe 6-7 days before she is showing signs of needing her chest drained.”
