What is coconut oil? Coconut oil is edible oil made from the flesh of coconuts. What are the Benefits?: Many of the benefits associated with virgin coconut oil are due to the high lauric acid content (roughly half of the fat in coconut oil), together with myristic acid, caprylic acid, capric acid, caproic acid, which are all medium chain fatty acids. These are great sources of energy and can increase the rate of metabolism in your body. Also these medium chained fatty acids have anti-microbial, anti-virall and anti-fungal properties – lauric acid converts to monolaurin which has anti-microbial, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
What does cold pressed mean? This is the extraction method. Cold pressed is extracted at the lowest possible temperature, avoiding heat which degrades oils of their nutritional benefits in addition to exposing the oil to toxins.
Storage: Virgin coconut oil is best stored in a cool dry place and is usually in a solid form but becomes liquid between 18°C and 24°C. The properties of the oil are not affected during the transition from solid to liquid to solid.
