Why are some Yaker Dog Chews different in colour and why do they smell smokey? YAKERS are smoked in the Himalayas using traditional methods. Each chew is laid on drying racks and they dry through the use of traditional smokers. The chews are moved up in height weekly over a 4 week period as they dry so that they are further away from the smoker, so the difference in colour shouldn’t be too great, however a darker colour just means that they have had more smoke than others. This colour may vary slightly from batch to batch too.
Why do Yaker Dog Chews have simples on the sides? This happens when the cheese is being compressed into blocks as it is wrapped in muslin cloth.
Are Yakers high in fat as they are made from cheese? YAKERS are low in fat at only 5.2%, the cheese used is made from skimmed milk as all of the cream is removed as part of the process.
Isn't salt bad for dogs? Salt in large amounts is harmful for dogs as it is for humans. However in YAKERS we only use a tiny amount of salt along with lime juice to get the cheese to coagulate (harden) at the very start of the manufacturing process. The salt content in YAKERS is less than 0.1%.
Aren't dogs lactose intolerant? Not all dogs are lactose intolerant, but if they are there is less than 1% Lactose in YAKERS because both the Cream and the Whey are removed from the milk as part of the manufacturing process, meaning that the levels of lactose are very, very low.

WOW biggest hit yet with our Lab pup, just tricky getting her to give it up so unfortunately didn't last more than 3-4 sittings.

Hi Jackie. Many thanks for writing this review as they do help others to make decisions. I know my labs love these but they don't last too long but my friends pug, like your dog, lasts him ages! Regards Kay

Fab service. Brilliant product. My dog, Ned, loves his yak snack... it’s basically dog crack! It’s natural and hasn’t broken off into pieces; it seems to gradually soften when chewed (not into a gelatinous lump!). Very happy dog and dog-mum! ;)

I've read mixed reports on these on the web but I think there's a knack to making them last longer and that's only letting your dog chew on them for 15 minutes, swapping out for a treat, letting the yaker dry out overnight then repeating the process. The chew gets harder each time My only gripe was that a small was too small for my 9kg terrier but he thoroughly enjoyed it and I would definitely buy again just not very regularly due to the price

Hi Alison, thank you very much for your review, we really appreciate your honest feedback. We have 2 Labradors, and we use the same tactic as you, as they tend to chew through them quickly.
We have put sizes and corresponding weights and breeds on the website, but your feedback will really help us going forward. If you would like to order again, maybe try the medium chew which is the next size up.
Thanks once again and we hope your dog enjoys the chew.
