I have received the Ultra running manual and it is excellent. I particularly liked the self-affirmation questions and the night running section.

A really handy comprehensive guide, answering questions I didn't know I had! I like the way the book is split into modules, so you can manage the information in handy chunks, with real, pre-race and on the day tips. I particularly liked the honest and practical 'If/Then' section, and the Rules of Failure. It's not always easy to plan how you'll feel on race day or what will occur, but I haven't encountered a guide that sets things out so clearly and gives you space to think about what 'failure' means for you - and it's not all doom and gloom! This is really helpful for first timers. Such an insightful book!

This is such a useful book for a beginner. It's concise and clear and lays out all of the options since the term "ultra" covers such a wide array of distances and terrains and durations. It's making me very exited for the first ultra race I'm hoping to run this summer and I already feel 100 times more prepared than when I read this. It's not over technical, the focus is on running!
