“This is a very good rasp. It is basically how Surforms should have been made. Great cutting. It doesn't get 5 stars because it is right handed and there is no left handed option. I'm left handed. This is an issue because, in order to hold the front handle with your right hand (as a left handed person would, like with a jack plane), you have to pass your hand over the upper side of the rasp, and that is itself a rasp, so you either have the take considerable care not to rip your hand or have to wear a glove. Both these are rubbish solutions. This design could easily have been improved to make it ambidextrous by subbing the rivets which attach the handle with nuts and bolts and providing a second set of attachment holes on the opposite side (a similar thing used to be done with clothes irons many years ago, before manufacturers worked out you could just exit the cord through the end of the iron, not the side). The mechanism to change from fine to coarse is simple and seems robust, but relies on relatively small contact points and it remains to be seen how well it will stand multiple changes.”
