“The blanks are to be used as mini pedestals for small clay sculptures. I think they will look very good and it saves me having to accurately saw small pedestals myself from a long length. I have also tried carving a bigger piece of tulip wood I bought from you a few weeks ago into a figurative sculpture. It carves well as long as the tools are sharp. It also splits well vertically with a sharp chisel and small hammer to remove surplus wood, eg on the corners of the block making it then possible to carve back into those cuts. Wood carving is not as flexible as clay modelling so it is not likely that I will do as much of that in the future as I like the spontaneity that the clay gives me.”
