“I split my packet of nematodes with my Mum, as they go a long way once you've diluted them. I used them two months ago and I'm impressed with the result. In previous years, younger and established plants would have been nibbled by now, and I'd see slugs creeping across the lawn at sunset. The bed at the far end of the garden was only dug over and replanted this month, so wasn't treated. It shows! One added benefit of using the nematodes is the extra watering the treated areas have received, in order to keep the soil moist. The plants have thrived.”

“These slug nematodes work very well and quickly. The instructions are very clear and easy both to follow and apply to the soil. I have even used them in my troughs and large pots where the slugs seem to love reproducing and destroying the plants. This is the best and most natural way to deal with slugs and I would recommend it wholeheartedly.”

Sorry to hear you haven’t had the results you expected from the product. Nematodes are a biological control, however this means their effectiveness can be limited by several factors: Nematodes require specific environmental conditions to thrive and be effective. They need adequate moisture over the first couple of weeks, moderate temperatures (applying when UV exposure is low) avoiding big drops in temperature overnight below the threshold, and having suitable soil pH levels. Extremes in temperature, dryness, or unfavorable pH can reduce their viability and effectiveness. When applying nematodes you need to use plenty of water ensuring they are spread evenly and fully absorbed ensuring they reach lower depths to reach the pests effectively. Pests can develop a resistance to nematode infection and the overall effectiveness of the control, however, if this is the case we recommend applying another dose to increase the volume of nematodes to overcome the resistance. “Unfortunately having applied the slug nematodes as per instructions 6 weeks apart we find it has made little to no difference. Our beans were decimated by slugsthe first time round and the secondlot have still been eaten although I think about half will survive. The wet weather has bought out an army of slugs! The good thing is the nematodes arrived well packed and on the day they were meant to.”

However, we are sorry to hear that you have not seen the level of slug control you were hoping for. Unfortunately, periods of prolonged wet weather can create particularly challenging conditions, as slug populations can increase rapidly and remain highly active. Whilst slug nematodes can help reduce numbers, they are a biological control and results can vary depending on the severity of the infestation and environmental conditions. In cases of particularly heavy infestations, additional applications may be required to help bring slug numbers under control, especially during extended periods of wet weather when conditions favour slug activity.
