Dear WIlliam, The item you were supplied is exactly as it should be, although there was some confusion led by mixed messaging regarding the centre table being removable, but the whole unit being one solid piece. The centre piece should be a detachable item by design. This allows flexibility to use the item as either a copanion set or a set of chairs.
