So far so good. In the process of using to seal my slate kitchen floor. Taken hours to clean the old sealer off the tiles, which scratched up quickly and looked awful, so I'm hoping this product will be much tougher. It's very easy to use, i applied two thin coats an hour apart as per instructions and kept off it for 24 hrs, very little smell to it which was a bonus. Ended up with a nice sheen look to the tiles, which also look a little darker, so very pleased. I'd be interested to hear from others how their tiles looked say after a year. Fast an efficient ordering service.

This product was bought to seal a slate fire place and it’s worked very well, great coverage and dried quickly.

The application seemed reassuringly straightforward and the end result looks very nice. However I had thought this would seal the slate but with thin coats I do wonder if it is primarily an aesthetic improvement, rather than actually helping to "seal" the slates where they are prone to flake?

Hi Cati Sealers are waterproofing agents that protect against spills etc and also (as in this case) create a sheen for aesthetic reasons. So you would be right in your assumption. Sealers are not designed to densify slate (or any kind of stone, concrete or clay-based material). No such product exists on the market yet - slate is a soft material, therefore, will delaminate particularly if it is in a wet area. It is not possible to harden a stone which has become soft - it is possible to dustproof it though. The product does not claim to densify stone. Slate Sealer is designed to seal against staining and create a sheen to make the slate appear more attractive.
