I owned an 8 year old Citizen Eco Drive already but the glass front cracked while on holiday with my grandchildren at CentreParcs, probably on the slides in the Swimming Pavilion, and let damp in. I had been very pleased with not having to wind it up. I went round the shops in Norwich and tried similar watches, before settling on the one I bought. The staff at HINDS were very helpful, both when I was looking and when I returned to buy my choice. It was reduced to half its price but I cannot comment on value except I thought the price I paid was acceptable. Staff in shops are all unable to explain the large range of different prices. This model has clear hands which are my priority, wanting to be able to see the time at a glance. There are no hour numbers which is fine with me. There are dials for seconds, minutes and hours, and a tachymeter to help when using the stopwatch function. The dials and hands are not luminous which would have been useful. It is waterproof to 100meters and my previous watch survived Swimming with it on. The Eco Drive requires the watch to be exposed to light, which I do not find a problem as I take it off at night, and during most days expose it to light on regular occasions. The instructions were online I found after I had left the shop. This proved difficult as it needed a number from the back of the watch which was not obvious and took me and my wife some time to find with a magnifying glass. The four digit code was part of a much larger number which was hyphenated. When I found the instructions they were less than satisfactory since they were mainly concerned with focusing on the need to let the watch get some light, not keeping it in a box. I had to independently research online how to use the tachymeter and am still not totally clear about the maths involved when calculating speed rather than just using it as a stopwatch. The staff could have been better trained and knowledgeable in order to be able to offer advice before I left the shop, as I was the only customer. The staff member (male) did fix the metal wristband by removing links, so it fits very snugly. The paper labels stuck on the back of the watch showing price and model number had to be removed by me after I left the shop. When I did so, I found a scratch with which I was disappointed. Obviously it does not affect the working of the watch, nor is it on the front, but as it was on display I feel this should have been pointed out at the time of purchase. Overall I like my replacement watch, I can see the time quickly and the white hands on blue give the watch an appealing look. Out of the watches I looked at in Norwich shops and online I am pleased with my purchase.
