Orient isn’t a brand you often see prominently featured on the high street, sooo I was genuinely surprised to find this model available to try on in store at F.Hinds. I initially compared it with the Bulova Classic 98B422 Surveyor in the red finish with gold accents. The first store I visited had an excellent assistant who also recommended another Bulova model, called the Jet Star. He encouraged me to try each watch, talked me through the brands and their movements, and even seemed interested to learn from me about Orient’s connection to Seiko and its place within the same group :) His approach was knowledgeable, patient, and completely pressure free. Unfortunately, the watch wasn’t in stock, and the only one available was the display model something I wasn’t informed of until I asked out of curiosity while he was arranging the sale. The store ordered one for delivery to another branch for me to collect, but that watch also didn’t appear to be brand new. I had to wait again for a replacement, which finally arrived at my home in the condition it should have been from the start. While I could say more about the store experience and ordeal, I’d rather focus on the watch itself. The watch is absolutely beautiful. The open-heart design allows you to see the mechanics of the automatic movement, which is a real highlight. The addition of a seconds hand adds to its charm. The red dial is deep, rich, and striking. On the wrist, it feels refined and well made though compared with the Bulova Jet Star, it doesn’t sit quite as comfortably for me personally on the wrist, which may simply come down to wrist shape... Overall, the watch looks fantastic and exudes quality. I’d love to see a version with copper or gold‑tone accents in the future.
