Awesome piece of kit! I am a solo kayaker who is only 5ft 2in so I was always worried about how I would be able to lift a kayak onto the roof of my ford fiesta by myself. Specially when I got myself a 15ft, 26kg riot edge! However now on my second lift on and off by myself and managed to get it all tied up within 15 mins. Only 2 slight issues - 1 - the buttons which lock the bars into place are very stiff and first time I tried using it I managed to flick button into the bar and it took me some time to save it. 2 - the end of the bar is very sharp so I have to cover it with a cloth to avoid damaging the kayak.

This is a very helpful piece of kit. However, the upright at the end of the rail can easily scratch your boat, fortunately mine was just a light scratch, but it could potentally do some damage. Subsequently, I wrapped the upright with padding. What isn't clear from the product picture is that the insert rail when pulled out is bare metal not coated and is of course a square section. The square edge risks scratching your boat and gives rise to some resistance when lifting the boat onto the rail. A cheap and easy fix is to drop into B& Q and buy a piece of FloPlast Black Push-fit Waste pipe, (L)2m (Dia)40mm for under £3. Cut to length it slides beautifully onto the rail and I also added a bit of the remaining pipe to enclose the upright. Not only does this prevent damage to the boat, the boat just roles into place on lifting. I've still got to find a better way of using the rope. It is needed to ensure the back of the boat stays in place during the initial lift to the rail, but it gets in the way when lifting the back of the boat. It might be best to just remove it before lifting the back of the boat next time. Including instructions on this would have been helpful.

The service & delivery from Escape was 1st class but I was very disappointed with the product. It cannot be used with J bars and the finish is poor with the upright tab being very sharp, I would of returned the product but the weight of the item makes this uneconomic.

This was the solution I had been looking for. Loading and unloading my 16ft sea kayak had been a major problem to do singlehanded but now I manage with no problem. For an 80year old to be able to say that has to be impressive.

Was easy to fit to my roof bars (standard ones not aero). Works well and makes loading my kayak far easier. Would recommend.
