“We have been on many barge cruises in France and other countries which have been no more expensive. This vessel falls far short of the standards we expected. The boat is in need of major refurbishment or replacement. The furnishings are old fashioned and tired. Our cabin toilet was extremely smelly and the stench of chemical toilets remained on our clothes. We expected a cruise but the actual time sailing was very limited. On arrival at 1.30, after a five hour drive, we were asked to go away and return at 2pm. Friday evening we moored at a pub but why would we want to drink in a pub when we had paid for drinks already. Sunday morning we moored at Saul Junction at a visitor centre - hoping to hear about the Cotswold Canals - but it was closed. Perhaps this could have been discovered earlier via a phone call. We believe the staff tried their very best and were helpful and friendly at all times. The Captain's Cocktail Party was the captain rambling on about his personal history. We are glad this was only a taster as we have no desire to return to the Edward Elgar.”
