Having only used pod machines prior to getting this one it was a huge learning curve but thanks to the dual wall baskets even my poor attempts were still palatable. I have since invested in a grinder and have been incredibly pleased with the difference between using pre ground coffee and freshly grinding my own beans so Id definitely advise getting a grinder - Im using a Hario grinder at the moment and it does a great job.
