A seductive red wine that has an opulent aroma of ripe bramble fruits, spice and hints of mocha. The palate is complex and well structured with ripe tannins throughout and balanced with cherry, plum fruit and juicy acidity. The production for this wine takes place from a low yielding, old vine, Monastrell - it also has additional Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah to boost the profile. They are fermented separately in small tanks and then matured in French and American oak for 20 months before blending and bottling.Food Pairing:A great match would be made with roasted meats and rich stews.

Well, I am rather reticent to post a review of this particular wine - because I’d quite like to keep it a secret so I can guarantee it’s in stock whenever I want it! But as we are all in lockdown, that seems a rather selfish thing to do... This is an absolutely delicious, easy-drinking, albeit quite powerful, red of a good vintage. Of course, each wine goes down according to personal taste, but if, like me, you like a strong, full-bodied wine with good legs on the glass and thick enough that you can’t see through to the bottom, then this could be one for you. Tastes of berries and maybe mocha with hints of that lovely Vanilla arising from lots of time in oak. It is also very smooth to drink and doesn’t leave any peppery or acidic finish. It goes well with strong cheeses, cured meats like salami and chorizo and roast lamb - a perfect Spanish wine. If you like Rioja, then I’d say this is of a similar style but the Monastrell and also the Priorat are much nicer, in my opinion. Having spent some time living in Valencia, I got rather bored of the Riojas. I first had this in an amazing authentic tapas restaurant here in the UK and I subsequently hunted it down online as it is not stocked in many stores here. If you have tried Juan Gil silver or blue label, I believe it is linked to that same winery. A word of caution though, this wine is rather on the expensive side for a single bottle - and, it’s that tasty, it may prevent you from enjoying a good old-fashioned supermarket version. You’ll have to be disciplined and set yourself a monthly compromise between the two! Enjoy.
