The Ricard companys commitment to providing both trade partners and consumers with a consistently high-quality spirit starts with the selection of ingredients.Every year, a team of experts from Ricard travels to southern China where badian or star anis grows. They choose the best fruit during the harvest, carefully following the production process up to the first distillation. That takes place on site, the better to capture the badians rich flavour, which is turned into oil of aniseed.Liquorice is the other natural ingredient that brings out the anise flavour. Their search for the best plants often leads Ricards flavour specialists to the banks of the Euphrates. Its vital to choose the plants with the most intense aromas. Only the roots are kept, which are dried in the sun and then cut up into sticks. The oil of aniseed and liquorice sticks are sent to Ricards flavour preparation centre in Bessan, a small village near Baziers in south west France.

Ricard pastis is the one. Hard to find for me in the UK so I bought this one especially for holidays. The price is an eye waterer compared to buying in Leclerc but hey ho!

Always a winner as an aperitif, Ricard is more licorice and herbal compared to Pernod. I find it best mixed with cold water and ice in the summer, or hot water for a lovely winter warmer. Anything more than 1:5 with water can be a little too strong for my palate - less can be more!

Love this Ricard Pastis - My tip, best used 1 measure to 6 in cold water for a lovely refreshing drink and can even be used with hot water from the kettle for a hot anise and licorice-flavored drink!

Ricard, vrai pastis de Marseille, is simply a necessity in the aperitif/drinks cupboard. Compared with other Pastis available it just tastes richer and more as a Pastis should.

My husband loves this traditional Pastis. It transports him back to France in a trice (or a sip). So hard to get hold of in this country. It has a real aniseed flavour but with a French twist, distinctly different from Pernod. He has tried many other Pastis, often much more expensive, but returns to this one each time like returning to comfy shoes after wearing smart new ones which pinch.

Towards the end of nice warm sunny day, sitting the the garden, before supper to make things complete a glass of Ricard. tmepered by iced water from the jug, chatting generally , suddenly the bottle is half empty , having enjoyed not only the "pastis" & the memories it brings but the added flavour of the hint of liquorice. Could recommend it to anhyone
