The General Purpose Microbiological Dipslide can be used to test for microbiological contamination in a wide array of industries. These dipslides will test for bacteria, yeasts and moulds (fungi). Each dipslide box includes 10 dipslide tests. This is a general purpose microbiological dipslide that can be used for testing a wide variety of samples. Suitable applications include: Teaching / Education Food / Beverage Industrial waters Wastewater Environmental Laboratory Laundry Koi pond water This microbiological dipslide features Nutrient agar TTC on one side and Malt Extract agar on the other side. Nutrient agar is a general purpose media that will support the growth of / test for aerobic bacteria / microbes. It will grow a wide range of micro-organisms . This agar is often used to test the 'general health' of a sample. The nutrient agar on this dipslide contains TTC (red spot dye). The dye in this agar allows for easier viewing of microbiological colonies after incubation. Due to the dye, the colonies will appear as red dots. Malt Extract agar will support growth of / test for yeasts and moulds (fungi). Again, this is a broad spectrum agar that will grow a wide variety of yeasts and moulds. Yeasts will grow as pale / straw colonies and moulds will usually appear as fluffy colonies. Examples of the appearance of colonies on both agars can be seen in the charts below. These microbiological dipslides come in a pack size of 10 slides per box. The slide has a flexible paddle and is located inside a shatterproof container. Flexible Paddle Each dipslide features a virtually unbreakable and flexible paddle allowing for even, full surface testing. Easy Run Off Design Due to the design of the dipslide, fluids will drain off quickly during testing. Recessed Handle Each slide has a handle built into the lid that is recessed to help keep your fingers dry during testing. Side Indicator One side of the slide will have a circle indicator so you know which side was used for testing which type of contaminant. Dual Sided Each dipslide is dual sided to allow multiple contamination testing with one test. Thick Reliable Agar Each agar is thick (approx 4mm) and raised above the dipslide to allow for easy surface testing. How to use the General Purpose (DS-GP) Microbiological Dipslide Simply remove the dipslide and immerse in the sample for approx 10 seconds. Remove dipslide and allow to drain for a few seconds, then replace the slide back into the tube and incubate for a minimum of 24 hours (up to a maximum of 120 hours). A comparison chart is included so you can easily compare your results. Step 1 : Remove slide Carefully remove the sterile General Purpose dip slide from its tube ensuring that no contact is made with the agar (to avoid contamination). Step 2 : If Surface Testing For surface testing, press the General Purpose dipslide onto the surface. If needed, place a finger on the bottom of the slide (on the plastic, not the agar) to apply extra pressure. Step 2 : If liquid testing For liquid testing, immerse the General Purpose dipslide into the fluid for 10 seconds then remove and allow to drain for a few seconds. Step 2 : If swab testing Apply a sample of the test substance to a sterile swab and gently apply to the agars. Step 3 : Incubate Slide Label the tube with the included stickers then place the slide into an incubator and allow to incubate. Step 4 : Compare results Count the amount of colonies that have grown on the slide and compare them to the comparison chart provided. Dip Slide Storage Store dip slides in a cool dry place (optimum temperature 8-15 degrees c). Use before the expiry date on the box. Dip Slide Disposal Used dip slides should be incinerated, autoclaved or soaked in disinfectant for several hours before disposal. A Microbiological dipslides are plastic paddles coated in a prepared culture media (Agar). They are used for microbiological monitoring of a surface or liquid. Each agar tests for a different group of micro organisms and will show growth if a particular contaminant is present in a samp
