“This was our second visit to The Devil's Porridge Museum. The first one was some time ago when it was based in the church. The new museum is a better setting to tell the story of how cordite was made and used. The layout of the museum enables visitors to go at their own pace and look at each exhibit. The museum is very child friendly. There is lots for children of all ages to enjoy - whether it's dressing up in period costume, 'driving' the fireless locomotive or punching stamps on your factory card as you go round. The museum manages to tell the story of 'the Devil's porridge' in a way that is both informative and educational, but still manages to convey the importance of the role cordite, and the people who made it, in helping to win the war. The local town was created for the workers and their families, so it's also worth a visit.”
