“The efficiency of the system is great but, as with everything online, there is always the nagging doubt that one will be scammed by a "cleverly-written" computer algorithm. I got what I wanted but one of the application questions basically gave me the option stating either that I was a born and bred Brit who had never left these shores or i was something akin to a recently-arrived Somali refugee. As someone who has lived and worked overseas extensively, I feel that I was forced, through lack of choice, into giving an answer that adversely affected the price I was quoted. After initiating the insurance so that I could pick up and drive the car I had purchased, I then received an email from Hastings Direct demanding that I confirm my "UK residency date" as if I had somehow lied on the original application. No explanation was given as to why they needed this confirmation but there was plenty of warnings about how I would be charged more money if the policy needed to be changed etc. Is it any wonder the general public hates and detests insurance companies so much?”
