Non-transparent and nonsensical formula for working out telematic scoring. Unfair weighting on the time of day scores (very punitive curfew). Leaving the car on your drive if you have an operation or are away at university counts against your score for time of day, speed, acceleration and braking. Basically someone has to move the car a few yards every day to maintain your scores- not good for the battery. Customer service are condescending and take 20 minutes to answer.

With the smartmiles policy you are expected to have a smartbox installed in your car. I was disappointed that the only times available are between 9am-5pm Monday -Friday and as a customer you are expected to be available either 9-1 or 1-5, which is difficult if you work a 9-5 job. Be aware also that if you change the car on your policy the smartbox installation is rather expensive.

I think they could be quicker when processing my claim and when they use technical terms they should explain them. In addition I do think they should ring and tell you every so often where the claim is up to.

Absolute joke. Horrible staff attitude in some departments. Told me wrong information under no incertain terms causing me to lose over 500 quid on top of my 900 initial premium. changed my car, to the tune of 120quid worth of 'installation fees' for a new black box. The outsourced company that fitted the boxes told me the company only receive 30 pounds for fitting them. So they charge funny money for absolutely nothing.Will never, ever use them again.

It is a good insurance provider, but needs to be cheaper on my next year I hope. Also I don't think they should monitor when you go out so duration of the day and night, as sometimes you can't always go by the times when you work at late times and want to go off. It shouldn't make s big impact on your scoring. It should only measure speed and how many times you are doing it, but improve when you improve.

Had no issues with Hastings Direct, however I can't judge them as an insurance provider fully as I didn't have to make any claims. Therefore I wasn't able fully judge there service. Also the online rating system for my driving seems very unfair at times. It seemed far too easy to lose marks in my driving and even with really high scores, it was difficult to bring my scores back. I got 61/100 overall which I didn't think reflected my driving accurately, but it entitled me to get 15% off my renewal.
