I live in an area that sees a lot of snow and ice and slush in the winter months as well as a fair bit of rain during the other times of the year. I was looking for a more casual style of boot that would work well in inclement weather and be equally at home in casual environments as well as for actually roughing it on mild hikes and walks. The leather used and construction, like all Cobbler Union stuff I've purchased, is top-notch. The last is ever so slightly more squared off. Brown, as a colour, appears to have a monopoly on the boot market - it is hard to find boots in other colours. Perhaps to be expected, given the boot's more rustic, countryside beginnings and aesthetic. As indicated above, I have the need for boots in settings other than the countryside. This colour is lovely - I tend to favour dark blue and navy over black in my shoes. I find them more interesting and versatile than black and they tend to be dark enough to stand in for black shoes in most settings I find myself in. This blue is a very nice one and the pebbled finish gives it just that touch of casualness. The combination of features makes it charming enough to be usable in all but the most formal settings at work as well as having a drink at the pub with your mates.
