Collinite No. 845 - Insulator Wax

Collinite say No845 Insulator Wax is their best selling wax, we use this a lot and we understand why. Collinite no 845 Insulator wax is the liquid version of Collinite 476s. Insulator Wax started life as a protective wax for electrical power companies. That goes in some way to explain how tough and durable no 845 Insulator wax is.

Collinite no 845 Insulator Wax leaves a tough, protective coating that more than stands up to all that nature can throw at your paint.

Used on a clearcoat and no 845 Insulator Wax gives you a high gloss, wet look. This wax is better suited to lighter paint colours and those wanting maximum durability.

No. 845 Insulator Wax is semi solid in the bottle, shake for about a minute and watch the wax loosen, it's then ready to apply, can be used by hand or with a machine polisher.

Our reviewers love this wax with one adding that No 845 is 'by far one of the best waxes i have ever used'.

Our Take

“One of those products we’ve trusted for years and still reach for today.”

No. 845 Insulator Wax is genuinely one of our all-time favourite products. It’s been around forever, it has a huge following for a reason, and it continues to prove itself year after year. With well over 70 reviews backing it up, it’s not just nostalgia — it delivers.

In terms of finish, 845 gives us that classic carnauba warmth but with a sharper, glossier edge than many traditional paste waxes. It brightens lighter colours nicely and adds depth to darker paints without looking heavy or overly oily. The liquid format makes it much easier to apply than a hard paste, and when we keep it thin, it spreads effortlessly and buffs off without drama.

Protection is where it really earns its reputation. Durability is outstanding for a wax — especially considering how easy it is to use. We’ve seen it hold up extremely well through poor weather, road salt, and regular washing when applied to properly prepared paint. Water beading is tight and consistent, and maintenance becomes noticeably easier.

For us, 845 sits in that rare category of products that combine ease of use, durability, and proper wax aesthetics. If we want long-lasting protection without stepping into full coating territory, this is still one of the most dependable options we know.

I needed something durable for the winter months and after using the high street easy access products like turtle ice wax and Mer I decided to pay a bit extra based on the reviews. I can’t comment on durability as it’s only been on the car for around a month and the beads aren’t as tight as they were when first applied. I must add that under the #845 I had a layer of poorboys ex-p sealant which may have not been helping the Collinite bond to the surface which may affect the durability of the #845. My car has always been clean and with the sealant underneath I can’t comment if the wax has affected the look of the car but I’m happy with the protection it’s given so far. The bottle does need warming up (simply pour some hot water into a bowl or something similar) for 5 minutes and give it a good old shake. As stated before a little defiantly goes a long way. I’ve done 3 full cars (2 layers each) and can barley notice the level change. This product also comes off rubber seals with no effort at all so another plus point. And I’ve now started using the product on my alloys and seems to last around 4-5 wash’s before it needs reapplying.

Bought on the basis of reviews on this site. Easy to apply and remove and creates a deep wet look on both light and dark metallic paint. Recommended

the best wax I've used, I want speed when waxing and this is the stuff, I'm fussy with detailing, but waxed my estate car in 1 hour, really easy to apply and as others have said, put on thinly. Make sure to place bottle in warm water before use, 3/4 of the way up, as the wax can be semi solid, shake really well and apply,l taking off there is NO residue which is so good and adds to the overall application speed. Fantastic beading, no wonder heavy industries use it, forget fancy packaging, this stuff works, simple, I will not use anything else, price also a bargain.

They say that this is a liquid version of 476s, on all the cars I've used it on (beetle, 3 series & X type) it's water beading has been different. With 476 the beads are very uniform, all pretty much the same size, 845 gives a spread of sizes from tiny to pretty big. I actually prefer this to the uniform 476 ones. If you can, apply it by machine, it goes on super thin & is a dream to buff off. Same rules apply, when it's hazing if you can see where you've waxed easily then you've put too much on. If you put too much on then it's a pain to buff off & you're wasting it! As it's now out of stock, I assume everyone is buying it for the approaching winter months. Don't fall for the hype from other more designer brands, use it all year round for awesome beads & months & months of protection.
