SONAX Xtreme Protect & Shine Hybrid NPT

This brand new product from Sonax is a wax free high gloss sealant for all new and as new paintwork, and for pre-polished paintwork.

SONAX XTREME Protect + shine covers the paintwork with an extremely stable and glossy protective coating (SONAX Hybrid Net Protection Technology), which provides long lasting protection, intensive rejuvenation of colours and an outstanding lotus effect. It reduces adhesion of dust and dirt, and the shine is automatically restored after every wash.

Sufficient for 3 – 4 straight forward, incredibly fast and easy applications; with no pretreatment or drying times. Each coating lasts up to 6 months and gives the paint an incredible lotus effect.

Directions:

Wash and Dry the car thoroughly before application.
Shake can before use.
Spray directly onto an applicator sponge and spread  (max 1/2 hood).
Let dry for 2 minutes, then wipe streaks with a microfiber cloth.

I first bought this product about a year ago. After hours of cleaning and (what I thought was correct prep), I used it and, in all honesty, was a bit let down. Yesterday, after reading up on it's use a bit more, I got home from work, took advantage of the dry and pleasant (but a bit cooler) evening sun and set to work on the car. Wash, de-tar, de-iron, wash, then the crucial part, a full wipe down with Sonax Paint Prepare. Even the full car barely touched the can, so good value there in my eyes, certainly over other panel wipes I could mention. With properly bare paint, I then applied the NPT - a panel at a time, using the supplied applicator, letting it dry for a minute or two, and then buffing to a shine. At first I felt it was a bit grabby. Key to get past this is to keep a fresh face on an MF cloth, turning regularly, and avoiding a deep pile. Sure you go through more cloths, but they can be washed. Did the whole car this way, a panel at a time. I managed to resist topping it with anything - this coating needs nothing on top when new. Then this morning, after some 10 hours of curing in the garage - WOW what a finish! Car paint is now like glass! It's not clear whether NPT can be used on glass and trim, so to avoid any issues, I didn't apply it there. Instead, when I wheeled the car back out, I wiped the glass and trim down with paint prepare and applied a coat of brilliant shine detailer. BSD can easily be topped up at each wash and will provide it's own protection to the trim. This, while I'm on the subject, this is another product I was never really happy with. I always felt it was a bit grabby. Same trick as above though, use a short pile cloth, turned frequently, and don't be shy to move onto a fresh one. I'm really happy I gave this NPT another go. I now can't wait til it rains to see the full effect, after doing it all properly this time! Sure it's a wee bit tricky to apply, but it's well worth the effort. Appears to be excellent value too. I have barely touched the can by the feel of things. One thing I might do different next time is try an MF applicator rather than the sponge. Remember, NPT and BSD are runny, watery products, they spread very thinly, evenly and easily, so you don't need much at all. Get your angles right and use the light to see how much product you're using and that your getting it everywhere it needs to be. Best way is straight lines one way and the across the other way.

very very good product and supprisingly easy to use! I'm not keen on the foam applicator as it is sometimes quite grabby so I use a Gyeon suede cloth and wrap it around either the applicator pad of a meguiars microfibre pad! I quickly spray the pad and spread across one panel at a time, then wait a minute and use two microfibres to buff it off. (One to spread the product and the second to buff clean). I have used this on bare paint wiped down with IPA and over a polished panel and the product lasts the same, I don't know if the solvent in the product removes the polish oil?? I would say this is as hydrophobic as Gtechniq EXOv2. Also layering SONAX BSD over the top helps prolong the sealant.

An amazing product, I can see why it is so highly regarded. It is very easy to apply, although it does squeak and the applicator can grab from time to time. Wiping it off is very simple, although it is quite sticky feeling. The water behaviour is stunning and like nothing I have used before. Approx 1 week after application the car doesnt seem to want to get dirty! The wheels pressure wash clean with no detergent required. I will be interested to see how durable it is, but so far I am hugely impressed...

Decided to try the Sonax Hybrid NPT from reviews on detailingworld. It is very simple to use and comes with applicator and microfiber. I found the applicator a bit to big for my liking so used the soft side of a German applicator pad instead. Spray on pad wipe on panel, wait and buff off. As with most clear products on lighter coloured cars can be difficult to see where you've been in bright light but a methodical approach negates this. It can appear a little more "graby" over traditional waxes when removing. Provides great protection, with no top ups and purely maintenance washes I saw 6 months and still holding well, before I decided to re-apply. Combined with Sonax brilliant shine detailer the two are a winning combo. Quick and easy to apply, great protection and longevity and of course insane water behaviour.

Well what can I say, what a easy product to use, having previously used many different products, my favorite winter use product being WERKSTAT Acrylic due to it's ease of use, well this is even easier, spray onto the included applicator pad leave a few minutes then just wipe off simple, cannot comment on durability yet, will now be my go to winter protection product.

Having seen a few rave reviews and "tests" done by people on YouTube I was sceptical that this was just more hype. However curiosity got the better of me and I thought I would give it a try. All I can say is WOW. This product really really works. It is easy to go on with they included applicator sponge and easy to come off with the included cloth. I had to machine polish my roof and bonnet due to some water etching from the neighbours kids having a water fight which then baked in the sun. So having removed this I applied the Hybrid NPT. I did half the roof at a time and same with the bonnet. Waited 2 mins and then buffed off. I then applied it to the rest of the car (which have Swissvax shield on) a door at a time. I waited 24hrs and then applied a second coat. The next day we had a thunderstorm and I have never seen beading on my car like this before. I have used quite a lot of products on my car in the past including Swissvax Crystal Rock, Swissvax Shield and GTechniq C1, C1.5 & C2v3. This to me performs the same as GTechniq EXO from what I have seen and is a fraction of the cost. Although I have applied 2 coats I reckon their is enough in the can to do the car another 3 times at least with 2 coats. It spreads really easily. 2 quick sprays on the sponge did half the roof of my car (Octavia vRS Estate) and would probably have done more had I really tried. I hope this now gives the 6 mths they claim. Time will tell but for now I can safely say that in the past 5yrs this is the only detailing product that has made me literally say wow.
