Subject: QUALITY ISSUE! Order #50806 (WEB50806)
Dear Cheshire,
This is going to take some explaining, so bear with me.
The original Norton TLS brake adjusting rod ends and Clevis Pins have different threaded ends. One Clevis pin is right hand thread and the other is a left handed thread, thus by merely turning the rod you can change the distance between the Clevis pins. This allows the owner to adjust the brake pad pressure independently between the two pads; this combined with the master lever stroke (cable adjustment) permits proper and equal force adjustment applied to each pad.
The part I received has right handed threads on each rod end and Clevis pin; this makes brake pressure adjustment on the top shoe extremely difficult as you cannot adjust the Clevis pin spacing by just turning the rod. You have to unleash one of the Clevis pins, turn it, and sort of guess/hope you are going to get its position correct.
On your part turning the rod does not alter the spacing of the Clevis pins!
I like the fit and finish of your stainless offering, but It’s going to take some trial and error to get the pressure balance between the pads correct. Also pad pressure adjustment after “wear in” of the pads will entail the same problem.
My comments on this are offered in the sense of quality improvement; this is not a complaint. I value you as a supplier.
I have attached a photo for your reference.
Please Advise.
Kindest Regards,
