My search is over - finally, I've found what I consider the perfect tea. Strong, yet so elegant; beautiful in the cup; a treat for the nose. Since I was introduced to Yunnan tea by sheer chance and brought a sample back home to the small Danish island of Bornholm in the Baltic, I have been searching for the perfect golden blend. The purveyor where I bought my sample soon discontinued the blend, and for the last year or so I've been buying samples all over Europe. No so any longer: I've foundt what I was looking for.

The colour is a combination of gold, copper and amber hues. This flavour profile is made up of strong earthy, chocolatey and sweet notes with a caramel finish. It has an exceptionally smooth mouth feel and is very easy to drink at any time of the day. It is very difficult to over brew this tea and the astringent/bitter notes are generally suppressed. Overall this tea is fantastic value for money, within the price bracket I think you will struggle to find a better Yunnan Gold.

I really enjoyed this tea. It really is a lovely, so I drink mine out of a glass cup so I can enjoy the colour as well as the taste, and on the subject of taste it has a lovely deep earthy flavour that really hits the spot for me. Best of all I find I can get at least two good brews from the leaves.

I received a 100 gram packet of Yunnan Gold for my birthday a couple of months ago. Since then I've been enjoying it at work and home. As far as taste goes, it's pretty much what I expected - it's a good quality Yunnan with nice chocolately/cocoa notes, maybe a touch of sweetness on the finish too. Definitely best served without milk. Cast aside any preconceptions you may have about having black tea without milk - decent tea like this can easily stand by itself - it is not like supermarket tea bags that taste incredibly bitter without milk. Once you've tried leaf tea it's difficult to go back to tea bags. It is not the absolutely best Yunnan I've ever tasted but for everyday drinking I have absolutely no complaints. I've been able to brew it pretty consistently. Some teas are very fussy and difficult to brew consistently, but as this is a black tea all you have to do is pour over boiling water and brew appropriately. As far as price goes I think it offers very good value for money - you'll get about 40 cups out of a 100 gram bag, so you're talking 25p a cup. The cafe around the corner from my office serves reasonable quality tea for £1.50 a cup. No comparison really.
