“I was a living in au pair for eighteen months when I first arrived in the UK back in 2005. At the time I was only doing what I was told by each family without asking questions. Only in the first family, the mother was explaining why I have to do things the way she was asking me to do them. Only later I understood different aspects of each family, precisely three different families, each with different culture, backgrounds and religion believes. Throughout my studies in the UK wether it was via college or via previous jobs I learned more in general. Coming from a different country myself, different social class, different culture and religion believes it wasn’t always easy to accept or understand the different ways of doing things in each of the family. Having learned about safeguarding children and vulnerable adults made me think back of some stages in my life where I could have changed a situation if I knew about all the different aspect regarding safeguarding in general. It was an educative course which gave a lot of thought, the sooner some one knows about safeguarding the better. Thank you”
