“There was one question about wether a child may doubt the ability of the system to prtect them when considering making a disclosure. I answered yes but the answer required was no. From personal experience, all teachers are well trained in Safeguarding and most follow procedures appropriately but when disclosures of abuse move through the system and end up in family court they are not listened to with the same concern. In my experience, frequent reports of abuse including physical spanning years on the Cpoms with a clear indication of how it is affecting education is often overlooked in family court with the emphasis on reinstating contact with the abuser. So while the first time round a child may not doubt the ability of the system to help them, years down the line after having being sent back to the abuser and punished for speaking out, they will.”
