“I have found Rowaphos to be extremely effective and it doesn’t release toxic aluminium unlike the aluminium oxide based alternatives.
I strongly recommend using a filter sock in a high flow area or fluidised reactor to ensure enough water flows through the media
I also recommend using at least 10l of fresh RO water per 250g of rowaphos to rinse the fine silt or powder out of the rowaphos before use.
Flushing it with tank water into a waste container will deplete the rowaphos before it gives any benefit to your tank.
I found repeatedly that 250g of rowaphos takes a 300l aquarium at 1mgl to 0.5, or from 0.5 to 0.03 measured using a salifert phosphate test kit”
