“I purchased these powerheads to create a gentle stream for danios and rainbowfish in a planted tank. They are set up with one on the left at the top of the water surface and the one on the right blowing back in the opposite direction across the substrate which is sand. Physical setup was very easy and I was pleased to find the kit contains stretchy nets to cover the gyre heads and prevent entry of small particles and young fish. Whilst there is a hardware controller the gyre pumps can be controlled from a phone or iPad. The app is a bit "clunky" but it works reliably and doesn't drop the connection so that is a real positive. I only have each pump running at 10% speed because these fish have previously only been used to the outlet from an external filter. The fish seem to love the flow. They are in a 120cm tank and are usually to be found right in the upper flow only centimetres from the pump. Whilst the pumps provide excellent circulation in the tank, the strategic placement of wood and stone gives opportunity for rest, as does moving out of the direct stream. I have used standard powerheads on a marine tank in the past and I feel these are much better - though the price is very high. Unfortunately if you want a stream effect then there is not a lot of choice. Maxpect it is then. Are the fish happy? Well they have only been in the aquarium three days and they started spawning this morning.”
“So far so good- I have used the gyres for years but after a couple of years of having a dry tank I had to replace my old pair.
The new controller and interface is much better! All the capabilities of the old ICv6 controller plus more options to tweak flow with the newly designed flow directors”
