“Only a quarter of the size of a marine pure block but with loads more capacity for bacteria. They are also capable of achieving anaerobic filtration as well as airobic filtration which most can't. Also these are tough. Really tough. They don't crumble, dent or break as soon as you touch them loosing valuable real estate. I tried cutting one in half with an electric saw and it took the best part of an hour. They are manufactured from bead like particles so any muck that gets stuck on them breaks down and passes through with the flow in self cleaning fashion. And being smaller means you can fit many times more bio filtration in your sump space. I've even used small amounts of sealer to glue them together as a platform to raise my skimmer. Awesome product.”
