Hello Marjorie, I'm sorry to read your other review. We advise adding between 1 to 2" to your dog's neck measurement for the House Collar length. The House Collars are meant to be more loose fitting than a standard collar but not so loose that they can go over a dog's head so easily. Unfortunately, if a dog likes to chew it will chew through the Napa leather quite easily and the House Collars are very lightweight without the core of a regular collar. For future reference, if you receive a collar that you feel is to long, we do accept returns and can exchange them for a smaller size. Bests, Jenny
