Earthborn Claypaint is a unique eco paint with a luxurious, ultra-matt finish for walls and ceilings. The beautiful range of traditional and contemporary colours are soothing and inspiring. Health and environmental benefits are unbeatable, too - Claypaint is virtually free of VOCs and other harmful emissions, odour free, totally oil free and highly breathable - great for traditional buildings, babies' nurseries and children's rooms. Being static resistant, Earthborn Claypaint reduces dust and allergen build-up, making it the ideal choice for asthma and allergy sufferers. It is also easy to apply and has great covering power.  Deliciously thick and creamy, it goes on like a dream and often requires fewer coats than conventional emulsions. All this and no horrible smells or emissions. With virtually no VOC's you can happily sleep in the same room that has been painted the same day. In July 2014, we hosted our first shabby chic furniture painting class using our beautiful Cla...

Great coverage and easy to apply. Have used in previous years and it wears well. Bonus is the lack of odour and environmentally friendly. Love this product.

Excellent for old / historic houses with lime render or plaster of Paris. My old walls turned out to be render or smoothed over with powdery plaster of Paris by previous owners of a 200 year old stone house. Other than stone breathability benefits, it's also easy to paint over otherwise problematic powdery patches. No peeling at all. All rooms are getting this treatment. Note, this is less suitable for painting over previously glossed or completely sealed walls. Stain blocker treated areas required 2 coats locally to prevent flashing through of the glossy blocker surface- I'm happy with the result though- horrible previously leak and soot stained walls are looking sharp.

Earthborn is the only claypaint I've used, so this may just be a review of claypaint generally! I used it to paint ceiling beams, previously stained and varnished. I wouldn't recommend claypaint for this kind of project, it gives a lovely matte finish but overall it doesn't cover well, leaves surfaces patchy, and is incredibly thick especially when applying two coats. I put Zinsser Bin Aqua primer on sanded beams first (the Earthborn Isolating Primer didn't isolate at all and the stain bled through considerably), and the claypaint on top. There was still some bleed through in patches for the older beams which only appeared with the claypaint, not the primer. I wanted to use claypaint as it's a natural product, but will not be using again.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We're sorry to hear the project didn't achieve the result you were hoping for. From what you've described, it sounds as though the bleed-through was more likely related to the stain-blocking stage rather than the clay paint itself, as any stain would first need to pass through the primer before becoming visible in the topcoat. Depending on the severity of the staining, additional coats of stain block may have been required. Or, maybe clay paint just doesn't react well with this particular Zinsser product when used on previously stained and varnished wood. We also appreciate your feedback on the Isolating Primer. Unfortunately, it isn't intended for use over previously varnished timber, so it wouldn't be the recommended product for the application you've described. Our knowledgeable and helpful staff are on hand for any pre-purchase questions you may have in the future if you would like to discuss your project and product options. Thank you again for your feedback, we really appreciate it and look forward to serving you again. Kind regards Celtic Sustainables
