Pump Floating Intake Strainer with or without Suction Hose By far the best way of pre-straining water held in a tank or large water butt before it enters a submersible pump. Protects pumps like a DAB Divertron 1200X or SteelPump. Whilst it is true that many pumps can be fitted with, or already come with, a built in strainer, such strainers all too often get blocked. That's because they remain static in the water and there is nowhere for the in-flowing particles to go but to stay sucked into the mesh of the strainer. It also means that the pump is being filled with water close to the bottom of the tank, which is where the sediment sits. Not a good place to be getting clear water from! With a floating water intake, the pump's suction strainer is kept high off the bottom by the float in the clearest water and the strainer mesh is free to move around in the water.
