The Rainus Downpipe Filter is a proven winner with customers who have had problems with blocked gulley pots or blocked underground pipework feeding into either rainwater storage systems, soakaways or drains. It is ideal for retro-fitting to properties where there is currently no filter in place before existing below-ground tanks and drainage systems where it would not be practical to install a below ground filter. The Rainus Filter is ideal before soakaways, ponds and infiltration systems. This is a Soakaway Defender, taking the organic matter and windblown plastic away from soakaway or rainwater tank.  It is a professional grade filter. It is sufficient to protect the stored rainwater quality even in an underground rainwater tank. The Rainus is so easy to monitor, due to its installation position in the downpipe - no need to lift heavy lids or to climb down into storage tanks! Its removable Stainless Steel mesh filters out debris to below 1mm particle size, keeping flies and mosquitoes out of t...

TL:DR Pricey but effective at what it does removing leaf litter, moss, tree seeds and dirt from the downpipe so that the diverted water is "clean" and the diverter doesn't end up blocking the downpipe discharge. So after talking to James at Celtic Sustainables about issues with a rain diverter getting clogged twice a year, necessitating me pulling apart the downpipe, getting soaked (column of water releasing) and then sometimes needing a ladder to reattach at the downpipe at the gutter, he recommended this. The others I looked at, he believed would ultimately lead to the same issues I was having, namely the moss and fines were blocking the diverter paths and causing larger matter to effectively block the main discharge. When this arrived it was way bigger than I was expecting but after a read of the installation instructions and a bit of "messing about" trimming pipe to get a good fit, it was in place. Then a very long dry spell, where no water was harvested. Now the recent rains have highlighted how effective it is. I placed a large pot under the disharge to see what has been collected, moss, sycamore seeds etc. On the fine mesh, smaller dirt particles and moss. Removing and cleaning the mesh is easy. However it's pricey but looks as they it will last and is effective at what it does. I'm glad it's installed and I'm looking forward to not having to empty the downpipe of leaves etc, when the diverter blocks the main downpipe discharge after the Autumn leaf fall.

I have fitted the product and hopefully it will solve the problem of pine needles blocking the drain gully. The bottom outlet fits on a standard 4" soil pipe and the top has a rubber seal to accept round or square downpipes.

Looking for a solution to gutters getting blocked and wanting to reduce my ladder climbing to clear them, I found the Rainus Downpipe Filter. Fitting to standard UK plastic 68mm downpipe was easy, though the amount needing to be cut out was more than stated in fitting instructions (cut out 49cm after using an old off-cut to work it out!). After waiting almost a month for a decent down pour (!) the filter has proven effective at filtering out the gutter moss and grit debris. As the downpipe drains to a soak-away this should ensure the water is debris free. Cleaning the filter and 'baffles' is easy and the wire mesh filter seems to be catching the fine grit that was always mixed in with the buildup in the gutter. No more humping ladders around or working at height - I'm happy with that!
