About Billingham:

Billingham are a family owned company, manufacturing camera bags for the world’s photographers since 1973 alongside a range of leisure and laptop bags. All bags are made in the West Midlands area of England, a region famous for manufacturing. A core reason for Billingham’s longevity is the fact that from the start, the Billingham family were determined that their products would always be made to the very highest standards from the best available materials to provide high levels of protection for their valued contents.

A notable feature of Billingham camera bags is that they are made from a distincive 3-layer waterpoof canvas that never needs reproofing. They also feature genuine top grain leather and solid brass details.

Like any premium product, the quality of materials, design and craftsmanship that goes into creating a Billingham means that it represents a significant investment. It’s important that they don’t just look beautiful, but that they do their job of protecting equipment wherever they are and whatever they’re being used for – year in and year out.

While shooting as a serious amateur and also weddings and for a small newspaper, I have collected about 20-30 camera bags for my different camera/lenses/kits. This single bag has to be my favorite. I have had it for four years now, and in that time it has seen some love and adventure. I have taken it to Across the U.S. and to Okinawa, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, and Hong Kong. I have used it to cover protests and parades, summer beaches and snowy forests. This is the ultimate small camera bag for travel. Trust me, if you are carrying a bag for 10-16 hours a day, less is more. I tend to use the bag for one camera, three lens kit. However, it also makes for a good two camera, two lens kit. There is an internal pocket that is perfect for a passport and extra credit/debit cards, and the front pocket is big enough to be useful. Depending on what I have planned, I can fit a combination of the following: iPad Mini, notebook, filters, light meter, 6-12 rolls of film, a tabletop tripod, cable release, a small backup camera like the XA2 or Rollei 35, external viewfinders, hand sanitizer, and a good place for a phone when it is raining. Talking about rain and weather-resistance, no camera bag I own seems to be as waterproof as this one. The top flap covers all the openings, and my gear has never gotten wet in countless downpours. Other camera bags come with a rain cover, but this one is built into the fabric. The included shoulder pad is a must and makes a difference when you have a several pound load. Thankfully the empty camera bag is very light. My leather straps did stretch a bit when I had the bag loaded all the way and then was caught in a downpour in Taiwan, but even now I am not worried that my gear will be damaged. I went with the tan color to keep everything a little cooler in the summer, and even though it has picked up a few marks, it seems that it only adds to the charm of the bag. This bag can be dressed up or down and just seems to check all the boxes for me. I also have a Hadley Pro and an S4 for when I am dedicating myself to photograph an event or something and need extra bodies or longer lenses. Also, as a big user of external finders, this bag is wide enough that I can keep them on all the time. Additionally, for travel, I like to only take a carry-on backpack, this bag is small enough that I can get away with not having it weighed - a must when many Asian airlines have a 7Kg carry-on weight limit. The last positive thing I want to mention is the padding on the top in the form of a little flap. This came in handy when the bag once took a little tumble and did a good job of protecting my Leica. Highly recommend as a camera bag that is in it for the long run.

The first Billingham bag I owned was a custom one they make for Leica M cameras. The bag is wonderful and has a luxurious and comfortable feel. Not over-the-top with all leather, yet extremely durable where it counts. When I needed a slightly larger bag I looked for another Billingham.
