About Billingham:

Billingham are a family owned company, manufacturing camera bags for the world’s photographers since 1973 alongside a range of leisure and laptop bags. All bags are made in the West Midlands area of England, a region famous for manufacturing. A core reason for Billingham’s longevity is the fact that from the start, the Billingham family were determined that their products would always be made to the very highest standards from the best available materials to provide high levels of protection for their valued contents.

A notable feature of Billingham camera bags is that they are made from a distincive 3-layer waterpoof canvas that never needs reproofing. They also feature genuine top grain leather and solid brass details.

Like any premium product, the quality of materials, design and craftsmanship that goes into creating a Billingham means that it represents a significant investment. It’s important that they don’t just look beautiful, but that they do their job of protecting equipment wherever they are and whatever they’re being used for – year in and year out.

Fantastic Bag, has followed me from Coronation Street to Hollyoaks. Can hold everything I've thrown at it and is very durable.

The design of the Billingham 550 is such an inspiration for me to get out into the world and take pictures. For me it is the most beautiful bag in the world. The quality of Billingham bags is amazing.

I’ve had a Billingham with the detachable side pockets for nearly 40 years now. Superb quality, nobody else makes camera bags like these.

I’ve used the Billingham 550 for many years and although it’s a large bag, I have no problem carrying it. It carries two Leicaflex bodies (original one) and the four lenses introduced with them in 1964. These are 35/2.8, 90/2.8, 135/2.8 Elmarit and 50/2 Summicron. As my meters don’t work, I carry a Weston Master V and Studio Deluxe 11 incident meters. These are non battery powered for absolute reliability. For an overseas trip to one country I carry 10 rolls of film. Plus a Filofax desk size that’s my workbook. I don’t have the end pockets, I bought my 550 used and rather shabby, but it has survived its previous owner’s carelessness very well. It arrived with no inserts except the wooden base. I drilled and screwed small blocks of wood to provide dividers then glued upholstery fabric on. It all works very well. I thoroughly recommend this bag. It’s perfect for me.

Hi Tony, Thanks for your feedback, glad to hear the bag is working well for you! Other readers will be pleased to know that we now (and have for at least 20 years) supply this bag with a sewn in padded lining, removable padded base and removable padded dividers - no need for drilling or screwing! Kind regards, Billingham Team

How often does a legend live up to expectations? That's the 550. The best bag you will ever buy. The price hurts. But the joy, the joy of the bag. Gorgeous design, beautifully executed. Tan and brown only, obvs.

I've used a 550 for over 30 years, a wonderful piece of kit now well used and battered, remember I bought it at Keith Johnson photographic (remember them)? on account. Have travelled everywhere with the bag on many construction sites and has stood up to everything climbing up buildings and down to the footings, and holds an incredible amount of gear. Well worth the money owed me nothing!!!

For years I have been using two 550 in olive/tan and Kaki/than. They are beautiful and extremely well made with noble materials. They are made to last a lifetime. A 550 can safety accommodate more gear than you want to carry, eleven 35mm lenses from 15 to 280mm, 2 cameras, filters, meters, films, maps... I also use them as weekend travel bags. Maintance is easy. just follow the provided instructions and the bag will be nicer with the age. I absolutely reccommend this bag. If you have got fine cameras and lenses, they deserve the best place to be kept, a 550.
