Xoriguer Gin, Gin de Menorca Reviews

5 Rating 377 Reviews
Read Basco Fine Foods Reviews

A cult gin from Mahon in Menorca, Xoriguer is one of the only gins in the world, alongside Plymouth, to hold a geographical indication, Gin de Menorca. This gin, pronounced sho-ri-gair, was first created for British sailors stationed on the island between 1708 and 1802. Xoriguer is still made using traditional copper stills and high-quality wine alcohol (eau-de-vie), along with carefully selected juniper berries from nearby Mediterranean mountains and aromatic herbs. The herbs, a guarded secret of Xoriguer gin's original bouquet, are added at the start of each distillation process. The respect for tradition is such that the fuel still used today in the distillery remains unchanged.

This is by far our favourite gin, the aromatics are something to be experienced by gin drinkers everywhere. We have tried some of the flavoured gins on offer at the moment but have always returned to the Xoriguer for our G & Ts.

With Gin being the latest in fashionable spirits I like to think I've been ahead of the game for a while with my love of Gin Xoriguer. Having lived in Menorca, the home of this fabulous spirit I continue to enjoy it from my current home. It's light, fresh and has the finest of Gin tartness. A sign of a really superb gin for me is if it can be served over lots of ice and a simple slice of lemon without being to much. Gin Xoriguer is one of the few that lends itself to this perfectly bringing that Mediterranean sunshine taste with every glass. Rates 10/10

Gin Xoriguer, is an amazing drink from Menorca. Although it is a gin, it is not like the gin you may be used to here in the UK. It's not anything like Gordons or gin as we know it. Gin Xoriguer, has a slight lemon hint and therefore goes extremely well with Fanta lemon, in fact all across the Balearic islands a quite famous drink called a 'Pomada' is made with Fanta Lemon and is incredibly refreshing. I have tried this with various other lemon drinks but it is no use, it has to be Fanta Lemon. Just one sip and I am transported back to hot days, in Majorca by the pool sipping my Pomada. It is also very nice neat with ice or on its own with an espresso coffee on warm balmy evenings. Gin Xoriguer makes a nice change and great that it can be purchased from Basco at a very reasonable price too. This was a little treat to me for my Staycation recently and I have a feeling, that it may become a regular drink on my shopping list from now on!!

This is a lovely tasting Gin. Chilled it in the fridge first. Tried it, initially, with tonic and fresh lime. Lovely! But after having it on its own with just cold tonic, no ice or lime - you can appreciate how lovely this gin is!! Distinctive and smooth. Quite addictive !!!!! Would definitely buy again
