Xoriguer Gin, Gin de Menorca Reviews

5 Rating 381 Reviews
Read Basco Fine Foods Reviews

A cult gin from Mahon in Menorca, Xoriguer is one of the only gins in the world, alongside Plymouth, to hold a geographical indication, Gin de Menorca. This gin, pronounced sho-ri-gair, was first created for British sailors stationed on the island between 1708 and 1802. Xoriguer is still made using traditional copper stills and high-quality wine alcohol (eau-de-vie), along with carefully selected juniper berries from nearby Mediterranean mountains and aromatic herbs. The herbs, a guarded secret of Xoriguer gin's original bouquet, are added at the start of each distillation process. The respect for tradition is such that the fuel still used today in the distillery remains unchanged.

A truly great gin. A very different aromatic from a typical London Dry. Really is my favourite.

We first enjoyed this fantastic Xoriguer gin on the island of Menorca many years ago and can do again thanks to Basco's fine foods and drink.

This is by far our favourite gin, the aromatics are something to be experienced by gin drinkers everywhere. We have tried some of the flavoured gins on offer at the moment but have always returned to the Xoriguer for our G & Ts.

With Gin being the latest in fashionable spirits I like to think I've been ahead of the game for a while with my love of Gin Xoriguer. Having lived in Menorca, the home of this fabulous spirit I continue to enjoy it from my current home. It's light, fresh and has the finest of Gin tartness. A sign of a really superb gin for me is if it can be served over lots of ice and a simple slice of lemon without being to much. Gin Xoriguer is one of the few that lends itself to this perfectly bringing that Mediterranean sunshine taste with every glass. Rates 10/10
