Las Panaeras Picos de Pan Breadsticks Reviews

Read Basco Fine Foods Reviews

Picos De Pan - a staple of any decent Spanish tapas bar. These versatile and crunchy mini bread sticks are an ideal accompaniment to any plate of charcuterie, cheese or chorizo. Picos - meaning: pick, lip, beak, are little mouth popping explosions of savoury crunchiness and bring an extra element to any tapas. Versatile; because, stored in an airtight container, they will last for weeks. Savoury; because the best, like these, are flavoured with extra-virgin olive oil and salt. Wrap in serrano ham or chorizo or popped in a bowl next to the olives, these little fellas will give any tapas that authentic Spanish feel. 800g/ Bag

For me, the robust crunchiness of these knocks spots off the rather brittle and dusty supermarket grissini that circulate in the UK and delight my daughters, who eat them like sweets - especially dipping them into our homemade version of Portuguese paté de sardinha. They are a brilliant substitute for full-on bread at lunchtime, adding a timely portion of carbohydrate without making the meal too stodgy - the curse of our sandwich-obsessed culture. They also demonstrate that simple bread can be flavoursome without having to be packed with flavours or sweetened. !Y qué crujientes!

We love these, particularly our daughters, who place them above grissini in this category of snacks. The generous bundle we ordered last week have on occasions supplanted standard bread in our meals, sometimes because the latter has not been easy to acquire under the present circumstances. Today's lunch saw them combined with Portuguese paté de sardinha, so this was a truly Iberian ingredient of our meal. We will surely get some again.
